What you need to know for Elementary Registration Day

August 16, 2017

GUELPH, Ontario – The 2017/2018 school year is fast approaching, which means it’s time to register your child if you are new to the Upper Grand District School Board. If you are a returning student to the UGDSB, you do not need to register your child unless you have moved to a different school.

Both elementary and secondary schools resume classes on Tuesday Sept. 5. Start times differ with each school; please consult the board’s website if you are unsure of the start time.

Elementary Regular Track

Elementary Registration Day is happening at all UGDSB elementary schools on August 30 between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend on August 30, Parents and guardians may register their child for elementary school from Monday to Friday during regular school hours (stat holidays excluded).

Please register at your local school. To determine which school your child is eligible to attend, visit the UGDSB’s School Locator.

Parents and guardians are asked to bring the following documents to registration:

  1. Birth certificate or Immigration papers
  2. Immunization Record card
  3. Proof of full address (e.g. driver’s license)

For more information on Kindergarten Registration, please visit https://www.ugdsb.ca/kindergarten/registration/.

Elementary French Immersion

Please note that each UGDSB elementary school that offers FI has a Junior Kindergarten enrolment cap as of September 2017. JK is the only entry point for French Immersion in Upper Grand. Entry into FI from other jurisdictions is possible if your child has previous FI experience. Check with the school for more detail.

Most schools for the 2017-18 school year are at their JK FI capacity. Please contact your specific home FI school for more information. Students not accepted into the FI program or placed on the waitlist must register for JK at their home Regular Track school.

To learn more about the FI cap, entry point and random selection process, visit the board website.

Secondary Registration

To register your child at a UGDSB secondary school, please contact your school directly to set up an appointment starting mid-August.

Transportation

Your child may be eligible for school transportation. For information on transportation eligibility, please visit www.findmyschool.ca. Service de Transport de Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Services (STWDSTS) is open during the summer and may be contacted at 519-824-4119 or 1-888-292-2224.

Those who are eligible for transportation can choose to opt out of busing by contacting the STWDSTS office. Your child will be removed from the bus list and marked as not riding. However, if you require busing in the future, you can call to re-assign your child to the bus at any time.
