September 19, 2017

GUELPH, Ontario – Drivers play an important role in keeping our school communities safe.

Municipalities are reminding drivers of the rules of the road with regards to school crossing guards.

Drivers are reminded that when they approach an intersection with a school crossing guard in the crosswalk with their stop sign displayed, drivers must stop before reaching the crosswalk.

Drivers must remain stopped until all pedestrians, including the crossing guard, have cleared the roadway.

The fine for failing to stop for a crossing guard is $150 to $500 and three demerit points (Highway Traffic Act).
