Policy 315 Privacy Protection and Information Access

Policy Statement

It is the policy of the Upper Grand District School Board to protect all personal information under its custody and control while providing right of access to information in accordance with all relevant privacy legislation.

The UGDSB collects personal information and personal health information to support the provision of educational services to its students. Prior to collection, the UGDSB considers:  what (limited) information needs to be collected and why, how the information may be used, who will have access to the information, and when the information will no longer be retained.

The UGDSB is committed to the protection of privacy and the appropriate collection, use, retention and disclosure of personal information and personal health information in compliance with all applicable provisions in the Education Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Personal Health Information Protection Act, the Personal Information and Protection of Electronic Documents Act, and other relevant statutes and regulations.

The UGDSB has adopted the Privacy Standard, developed by the former Privacy Information Management Taskforce, for use by Ontario school boards/authorities in the management and protection of personal information, personal health information, and confidential records.
