Mathematics

The math department aims to enable students to enjoy Mathematics.  Enjoyment will enhance their understanding of the principles, content, language, and meaning of the subject.

The math department presents Mathematics in realistic and useful contexts and contains a wealth of practical examples and exercises.  The processes of modelling, problem solving, and applications are integrated with the topics throughout the math department.

The calculator and computer are regarded as powerful tools; students should use them whenever it is appropriate to do so.

The math department provides opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of proof.  Emphasis is placed on analytical and creative thinking, decision-making, and on the interrelationships which exist between mathematics and other disciplines.
