Information for grade 8 students and their parents/guardians

December 3, 2020

Hello Grade 8 Parents/Guardians,

Typically in the winter months, Upper Grand students in grade 8 and their parents are invited to events to introduce them to high school. In the past, this would have looked like “Grade 8 Parent Nights” and large events like “Career Pathways.” This year, as a result of the challenges related to COVID-19, we are re-envisioning this process to ensure a smooth transition for our grade 8 students and their families as they look toward this important milestone.

For this year, all high schools will offer virtual grade 8 nights in January. More information will come soon about official dates – please continue to check the website for the high school your child will attend for updated information.

If you are currently registered at another school board and plan to attend a UGDSB secondary school please reach out to the school you plan to to attend to make an appointment to register. Please refer to this website for more information about registering at UGDSB: https://www.ugdsb.ca/schools/admission-registration/

As you prepare to make course selections and register for secondary school we encourage you to check out the following resources for more information:

Know that despite the uncertain times, we continue to be here to support this important milestone in your child’s educational journey. Information will be updated and shared as it becomes available. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher or the high school you believe will be their destination in the fall.

Thank you,

Carlo Zen
Superintendent of Education
Student Success Lead
Upper Grand District School Board
