Use of Mobile Devices in School

Posted November 4, 2019

There has been some media coverage about the use of cell phones and other devices in classrooms. To provide you with information, below is a link to our USE OF MOBILE DEVICES BY STUDENTS that is part of our digital citizenship and safety procedures.

The next to last paragraph states:

It is the expectation of the UGDSB that when approved for use by a teacher, mobile devices may be used when they are deemed not to interfere with a student’s personal learning or the learning of others.  They are not to be used in private areas such as locker rooms and washrooms nor are they to be used where it interferes with privacy or safety of staff, students or others.

Cell phones are not banned in our schools. The use of mobile devices in classrooms has always been at the discretion of teachers and this continues to be the case. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
