Further Updates To School Start Up Routines

Posted September 3, 2021

Hello Alma PS families.  I am very excited that we are going to be seeing each other in person on Tuesday.  It’s always exciting to count down the final few “sleeps” before school begins.  We are finishing up the finishing touches and are looking forward to learning together soon.

As I suggested in my previous email, there were a few further clarifications from Public Health that I would like to share:

  • Masks will be worn outdoors as kids come off of the bus or are dropped off and in other times where there is the mixing of classes happening.  This will help to limit times when students from other classes are interacting without masks.
  • Outdoors is a great place for a mask break.  The yard will be more open this year and when students are with kids from their own classes, there is no need for mask-wearing and distancing will be strongly encouraged.  For times where they are interacting with students from other classes, kids will be required to wear a mask.  Staff will regularly communicate this expectation throughout the day, both on the announcements and through educator messaging.  Some families may choose to have their children wear masks outside and that is fine.  Families may want to send a break-away style lanyard or baggie for masks to be placed in when they are removed.  Students will replace masks before entering the building.
  • Staff will be having daily whole-group discussions during the first 10 days about the importance of self-screening at home in an age-appropriate manner.  This will help students to build up routines again at home so that screening easily becomes a part of what we do to get ready to come to school.

As always, if you have further questions or items to discuss, please reach out via my email at [email protected] or call the school at (519) 846-5110 extension 223.

Please have a safe and enjoyable long weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday, September 7th!
