Important Memo Regarding School Reorganization

September 15, 2021

Dear Parents,

As you are aware, classes within the Upper Grand District School Board are tentative for the first two weeks of school.  Schools have built class lists based on tentative organizations.  Changes are sometimes necessary so that our Board remains compliant with Ministry of Education parameters with respect to class size.   Student numbers have been finalized as our enrolment has grown at Alma PS, which has led to the need to make some changes to our kindergarten class structure.  All other classes will remain as they are.

Our large class of 30 kindergarten students will be made into two classes.  Both will be a mix of junior kindergarten and senior kindergarten students.  We have been advised that one class will have 20 students who will be with a teacher and an ECE and the other class will have 10 students who will be with a teacher.  This is a fantastic opportunity to best serve all of our early learners and both will make for rich learning opportunities.

While any type of change can be difficult for children, we will make every effort to have this shift occur as soon as possible so that students can settle into their new classes.  Mr. Boyce and the staff at Alma will be finalizing placements tomorrow and this will be communicated as soon as possible.  Teaching staff are being determined as it will result in hiring another staff member and once that is finalized it will be communicated to families.  We are pleased to have the opportunity to grow our amazing school in this way and we look forward to supporting your child in this transition and seeing them succeed.

Your child’s placement will be clarified by an email from Mr. Boyce on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning of this week. New classes will begin on Monday, September 20, 2021.

If there are any questions please call the school. Once students are in their new classes we will not be able to make any changes.

We apologize if this causes some temporary concern; however, we hope that you will share our enthusiasm for the opportunity to enhance the experience of all of our students by providing more balanced numbers and classes.   Thank you for your support and patience as we get students settled into their new classes.

Sincerely,

Jason Boyce

Principal Alma PS
