Updates For The Week of September 27-October 1

Posted September 28, 2021

Here’s a few quick reminders for this week:

1.  Tomorrow, students who have purple at home can wear purple in honour of Rowan’s Law Day.  We have purple yarn here if you don’t have purple and want to make a bracelet.  This day is when we remind students about the importance of seeking help if they have a head injury.  Even the smallest bump should be checked out.  If an injury is minor it might be treated with a bandage or a wet paper towel to soothe but if it is more significant or concerning we will contact families.  Concussions are serious and we want to ensure everyone is safe at school.

2.  The Terry Fox Run is tomorrow.  Students will be walking or running in our back field from 2-3 PM.  If you’d like to donate, you can find a link to Alma’s Terry Fox Run page here:  www.terryfox.ca/AlmaPSAlma.  We are close to our goal.  Thanks to everyone for contributing and supporting this amazing cause.  Thanks too to our grade 6 leaders and Mrs. Hons who organized these events.

3.  Thursday is the first National Day for Truth And Reconciliation.  We are encouraging students to wear orange in memory of a child who had their orange shirt taken from them when they were put in a residential school.  We have orange yarn for bracelets once again if students would like to have orange and don’t have any at home.  Lessons throughout the day and week will focus on this important topic as we remember that “Every Child Matters.”

4.  We are pleased to have Ms. Billing join our growing Alma PS staff family as our new planning time teacher.  She will be starting on October 5.  She will be teaching afternoons on days 1 and 2 with a focus on teaching kindergarten gym alongside Mr. Boyce.  She will also be providing some resource support as required.

5.  Scholastic book club is a great way to support both your child(ren)’s love of reading and Alma Public School!  Paper-free flyers are available each month online at www.scholastic.ca/canadaclubs.  Paying online is EASY!!!  Submit your order online at www.scholastic.ca/canadaclubs  (The order will be automatically sent to Mrs. Scott)   The steps are easy:  a) Find Alma Public School  b) Click on Mrs. Scott as your teacher preference  c) Pay with Credit Card or PayPal.

At the end of the year, all students who have ordered will be entered into a draw for free books!  Thanks to Mrs. Scott for arranging this.

Thanks to all of our Alma families for your support and patience as we have transitioned our classes.  Teamwork makes the dream work!

Sincerely,

Jason Boyce

Principal Alma PS
