Updates For October 4-8, 2021

Posted October 5, 2021

Hello Alma PS families.  Below are 5 pieces of information you need to be aware of for this week:

1.  As Miss Robinson joins our team, unfortunately, there have been some IT problems with having her shift over to our school location from her previous school.  She is getting the Google Classroom set up with information about the class and herself, but unfortunately, it is not reaching some families.  Our School Board’s IT department is working to fix the issue and hopefully, it will be remedied soon.  In the meantime, if you need to connect with her, please speak to her at pickup, email her at [email protected] or call her at the school at (519) 846-5110 x 401.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

2.  Now that Miss Robinson and Ms. Billing have joined our team officially, our school staff is working at putting together a presentation to share with families as part of a virtual Open House.  We wanted to wait until our school team was here so that it best reflected our plans for the rest of the year.  More information will be coming out about this Google Slideshow presentation in the near future.  As always, if you need to in the meantime, feel free to connect with a staff member in the modes they shared with you as their preferred means of communication.

3.  Photo Day has been approved and has been scheduled for October 28th.  At this time current guidelines allow for individual photos.  More information will be coming from Lifetouch itself about guidelines and orders.  We will send that home as soon as it arrives.

4.  As the weather shifts, sometimes the building is cooler, especially as teachers have windows open for ventilation.  As our heat comes on, it sometimes takes time to adjust.  Dressing in layers will help keep kids comfortable.  When they do bring an extra sweater, please check with them to make sure it is coming home each night as sometimes it warms up throughout the day.  We have been able to avoid having a lost and found for over a month and we want to keep this streak alive!  Also, since it’s best for kids to be outdoors at recess, please remember to help your child dress for the weather.  Some mist or light rain is still okay as long as students are dressed for it.  We may pivot to a hardtop recess if it is exceptionally wet on the yard.  Being outside allows for masking breaks and an opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise.  As they say, there is no such thing as poor weather, there are only poor clothing choices!  As always, in extreme cold or storm situations, we will have our indoor recesses as normal.

5.  Our grade 6 students have asked me to share the following letter regarding our Terry Fox Run.  Thanks to everyone for your amazing support!

Dear Alma Community,

We would like to give you a HUGE thank you for all the donations you gave to the Terry Fox Foundation.  With your support, we easily surpassed our goal of $700 and managed to raise $1143.  We are so excited, and a bit surprised because we ran our goal over with a steam roller almost three times!  We are also grateful for how much you donated.  We know that this money will go to new machines and tools to help with cancer research and help kids like us beat cancer.

We are also proud of reaching our goal without getting a reward.  The amount we raised came purely from our hearts and yours.  So, thank you for donating and helping to keep Terry’s incredible legacy alive.

Sincerely,

The Grade 6 Class

Thanks to everyone for all you do to support our school family.  You are very much appreciated!

Take care,

Jason Boyce
