Updates For October 11-15, 2021

Posted October 13, 2021

Hello Alma PS families.  We hope you enjoyed a great Thanksgiving long weekend and enjoyed some quality time with family and friends as you were able.  Here are 5 things to keep on your radar in the coming weeks:

1.  The township of Mapleton is looking for help with occasionally covering a crossing guard role.  If interested, please contact the township of Mapleton.

2. Picture Day will be held on Thursday, October 28.  Students will bring home information this week about how to order pictures online before the event.  Online orders are preferred.  If you order online, students do not need to bring in any documentation as it goes directly to Lifetouch. If you choose to pay in another manner, the paperwork must be brought in on October 28 with the correct cash or cheque amount enclosed.  The photographer does not make change.

3.  Once again this year we will be hosting the virtual Pumpkin Carving Contest that was started by Mrs. Spike.  More information on how to submit your entry digitally will be shared soon.  Students can create a pumpkin at home under a variety of themes.  Categories include largest by weight, best carved, most unusual, most perfect shape, and best decorated.  Be sure to remember that all entries must be tasteful, not too scary and school-appropriate as they will be viewed by a wide array of students of various ages.  Please stay tuned for more information.  Since October 28th is Picture Day and October 29th is a PA Day, our Student Council is shifting away from our traditional Orange and Black day and is working on an exciting new event that will be held on November 1.  Details will follow as our students create this fun event.  As a reminder, as with all foods, please check to ensure that any candy that students might bring in their lunch is in moderation and is checked to see if it includes nuts, as we are a nut-aware space.

4.  A Google Slides virtual Open House slideshow has been created by our staff.  It will be posted tomorrow in your child’s Google Classroom.  While we cannot have parents on site at this time, it gives a glimpse into classroom life and includes a photo of staff who may be working with your child.  As always, if you have questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.  Thank you for your patience as we waited for our entire staff to be hired due to reorganization.  We wanted to include our newest staff members, Miss Robinson, who is teaching kindergarten, and Ms. Billing, who is our new planning time teacher.

5. Thank you for continuing to complete the daily screening for your child.  You can find it on our website or at this link:  https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/.  It provides helpful decision-making information and also provides guidance about what to do where siblings or other family members are concerned.

Thanks as always for your support of our school community.  If we can help in any way, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Jason Boyce

Principal Alma PS
