Updates For Online Learning

Posted January 4, 2022

Good morning Alma PS families.  Teachers will be spending Tuesday and Wednesday getting ready for the shift to remote learning.   I am extremely proud of our team as they are working hard to shift and support your students in this online environment.  They will be reaching out to families tomorrow to ensure you can access Google Classroom and to answer any questions.   There may be some initial posts on Wednesday and the full remote learning plan will begin on Thursday.

For those families who have requested a Chromebook, after filling out the online form sent to your email, they can be picked up on Tuesday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM and from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Wednesday.   Please ensure that you are feeling well, then stop by the office window for pick up. Please wear your mask and observe physical distancing guidelines (maintain 2m at least from others).

Please remember that with online learning, all we can do is our best.  Many families may have both students and a parent or two working from home.  This also includes many staff members in our school and around the province.  Please also remember that synchronous learning means that while there are whole class Google Meets for your child to attend, sometimes there will be independent work, small groups of students working with the teacher, office hours where students can be working and check in with the teacher, and even some occasions where a teacher is working one on one with your child, just like might happen during a regular day in school.  Teachers have the flexibility to work within their means and support your child(ren) as best they can.  Please also remember that if things seem hard, never hesitate to contact your child’s teacher to figure out something that will work best for your family.  We understand that everyone is doing their best and we want to support you however we can.

I have been speaking with several families already about providing support during this time of transition.  Help is here if you need it.  Alma PS is a caring, supportive community that has always risen to the occasion and found a way to care for each other.  I look forward to this being another one of those times our students will remember where we have held up that reputation.  As always, if there are any questions, please reach out.

Take care,

Jason Boyce
