Updates For March 7-11, 2022

Posted March 9, 2022

Hello Alma Families!  Please remember that March Break starts this Friday, March 11 and we return to school on Monday, March 21.  Here are the 5 things you need to know today to keep up to date this week:

  1. For our Live Free Fundraiser for our school snack program, our school raised an amazing $380!  Thanks to all who donated.  These funds will be very helpful in bringing healthy food to hungry minds.
  1. Our Student Council is planning some fun and educational activities for the month of March.  On March 21, the day we return to school, students can wear their favourite socks and “Rock Your Socks” for World Down Syndrome Day, and on March 25th we will wear purple for Epilepsy Awareness Day.
  1. Due to the school closure this past Monday, we have some extra milk that would expire before our return from March Break.  To help use it up, tomorrow we will be offering a second helping of milk to students who purchased a milk card at our second nutrition break as well.
  1. The Alma Optimist Club Chicken fundraiser has raised an astounding $835 for our school.  We really appreciate their efforts to help our school community.  For those who ordered chicken, it can be picked up at the Alma Community Centre tomorrow, Thursday, March 10, at 6:30 PM.
  1. As you may have heard, the province announced today that there may be upcoming changes to the mask mandates for schools.  The UGDSB has posted the following on the Board website:

On March 9, 2022, Ontario announced changes to COVID-19 requirements effective March 21, including lifting mask mandates in schools.  Please note that the Upper Grand DSB continues to have a Board Resolution requiring masks in schools.  We will consult with the province and will provide additional information as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Please rest assured that as soon as there is more information to share, it will be sent.  Thank you for your patience as we await this clarification.

Thanks as always for your continued support.  If there’s anything the school can do to help, please let us know.  We’re here to help!

Take care,

Jason Boyce
