Updates For October 3-7, 2022

Posted October 7, 2022

Hello Alma Families!  Here are the 5 things you need to know today to keep up to date this week:

  1. At Alma PS we have SO much to be thankful for.  We have a new and updated school heating system which we have been enjoying with this cooler weather, a wonderful staff team who is working really hard and an amazing community of students and families who call our school home.  We are especially grateful for the parent volunteers who have offered to help on our recent and upcoming trips, as well as those who worked hard cleaning up our front gardens.  As you enjoy this long weekend with those who matter most, please know that we value each and every one of you and appreciate the richness and diversity you bring to our community.  We hope you have a restful break from routines and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, October 11.

  1. Our first School Council fundraiser is here!  The School Council will be selling poinsettias.  An order form to organize your orders will be coming home today as you might see family and friends this weekend who also would like to order some.  Please use the tracking sheet to keep track of your orders and then once you are ready, head over to https://ugdsb.schoolcashonline.com/ to make one payment for all of your orders.  Once that is done, please send the form back to the school by Monday, October 24, 2022.  Poinsettias will be available for pickup at the Alma Community Centre on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

  1. We have noticed recently that several students are coming to the office to ask for a plastic cup to use as they have forgotten their water bottles.  While we are happy to provide them for those emergency situations, thanks for reminding your child to bring their water bottle daily so that they are staying hydrated and also so that we are doing our best to be good stewards of the environment.  Thanks!

  1. Our next School Council meeting will be held next week on Thursday, October 13 at 6:30 PM at the school.  For those on the School Council email list, an agenda for the meeting will be shared digitally.  If you are not on the email list, please contact the school ASAP so we can add your name.  As shared at the last meeting, if you have new business which you would like to add to the agenda, please email our chair, Paula O’Donnell, at [email protected].

  2. We are pleased to announce that we have a new staff member joining the Alma PS family.  Mrs. Halls will be joining our EA team as our full day EA and Mrs. Lane will shift to be our afternoon EA.  We are blessed to have such an amazing group of educators in our school!

As an additional item, please see the note from the UGDSB below which has information about a change to the date for the North Wellington Hub Meeting:

Please note the North Wellington Hub meeting originally scheduled for October 12th has been rescheduled to November 3rd due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Hub is an opportunity for parents/caregivers and community members in North Wellington to meet on a regular basis to discuss topics related to their child/ren’s schools and education, and to receive information from the board related to schools. The purpose of the Hub is to facilitate communication and collaboration about North Wellington schools in a positive and respectful environment, where information is exchanged, learning and understanding is provided, and more.

You are invited to attend the next meeting which has been rescheduled to November 3 at 7:00pm at Norwell District Secondary School (135 Cumberland Street, Palmerston) or virtually via Microsoft Teams.  Please see the attached flyer which was sent to your email and access the virtual meeting link.”

Thanks as always for your continued support.  If there’s anything the school can do to help, please let us know.  We’re here to help!

Take care,

Jason Boyce
