Updates For June 5-9, 2023

Posted June 9, 2023

Hello Alma Families!  Here are 6 things for you that are key to know for this week and next:

  1. Thank you students, staff and families for your patience and quick pivot with track and field today to hold our events despite a drizzly start.  The kids did so well and had an amazing day.  It was a joy to see so many family members of all ages come and cheer on the students and to provide a fun opportunity for our kids.  Well done Alma PS!

  1. Our School Council recently approved the purchase of a portable wireless speaker and microphone in partnership with the school to help provide better accessibility for our outdoor events, such as the upcoming grade 6 celebration or events like play day, etc.  Other items they have helped to raise funds for are future playground expansion such as a gagaball pit, a maintenance fund for the new playground structure once it arrives, and support of over $2300 for:

School Contests And Prizes:

  • Pumpkin Carving Contest
  • Food Bank Challenge

Transportation & Educational Initiatives

  • 50% of the transportation costs for the grades 1-6 trips to the River Run Centre
  • $110 per class for students to participate in the Scientist In The School program
  • transportation of our kindergarten students to the Children’s Art Factory
  • transportation for our Grade 6 students for their day trip to Camp Brebeuf

Support For School Programs

  • A contribution to the Food & Friends Snack Program
  • Supplies for the kindergarten welcome bags

Gifts Of Appreciation

  • Gifts for the outgoing School Council Chair and if required, gifts for potential staff not returning to Alma PS next year once the staffing process is finalized

Thanks as always to our Council and its members for making our school such a warm and welcoming place to be.  We look forward to seeing you all out again next year!

  1. Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) is encouraging the community to take part in a survey about cannabis knowledge, attitudes and behaviours, and the impacts of cannabis use. The answers to the survey will help to monitor the impact of cannabis legalization in our community and identify ways to support residents through programs and services.

This community survey is open to residents of Wellington County, Dufferin County, and the City of Guelph aged 16 and older, whether they have used cannabis or not. The survey is voluntary, anonymous, and takes about 5 to 15 minutes to complete. There is a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards. The survey deadline is June 30, 2023. To access the survey, visit: www.wdgpublichealth.ca/cannabis-survey.

Thanks as always for your continued support.  If there’s anything the school can do to help, please let us know.  We’re here to help!

Take care,
