Erin PS* Remote Program Information
*Please note: the name of the Elementary Remote Program has been renamed the Erin PS Remote Program for the 2022-23 year, however this program is available to students from all UGDSB elementary schools.
While we believe that in-person learning best supports students, we recognize that some families may want their child to learn remotely, due to their unique circumstances.
Families should be aware that there will be some differences in remote learning in 2022-23 compared to what we were able to offer in the past two school years. For instance, with more students expected to return to in-person learning, our ability to offer a similar breadth of remote programming as was offered previously may be limited.
PLEASE NOTE: The decision families make about remote learning vs in-person learning for 2022-23 will be for the entire school year, as movement between learning modes can cause disruptions for many students and classrooms.
We recognize that making a decision now about next school year may be challenging, however we will be using the registration information we receive now to organize and create our staffing, class organization and timetables for the fall.
For the 2022-23 year, we will offer synchronous remote learning classrooms that include:
- 300 minute daily schedule set by teacher
- Live instruction using Google Meets (225 minutes for Grades 1-8; 180 minutes for Kindergarten)
- Use of Google Classroom online learning environment
- Daily attendance
Changes for 2022-2023 School Year
For the past two years the ERP has been run with students staying registered at their in-person “home” school and cross-enrolled with the ERP. Next year, all remote students will be officially transferred from their in-person school to the Erin PS Remote Program, which is being run out of Erin Public School. All Ontario Student Records (OSRs) will be moved to Erin PS. While this won’t make much of a difference from the students’ and families’ perspectives, it will allow the Erin PS Remote Program to become established as a permanent program moving forward.
- Out-of-Province remote students will not be allowed to join the Remote Program, as per Ministry of Education direction.
- Dedicated asynchronous classrooms will not be offered next year.
Erin PS Remote Program French Immersion
The viability of French Immersion (FI) being offered in the Erin PS Remote Program will be dependent on the number of FI registrations. Those families wanting to guarantee FI programming for their child(ren) should consider in-person learning. We will confirm if FI will be offered for 2022-2023 when registration closes. If you sign-up for FI at the Erin PS Remote Program and we are unable to offer FI, we will contact you to discuss your options.
Erin PS Remote Program Special Education and Specialized Class Placements
The viability of Specialized Class Placements being offered in the Erin PS Remote Program will be dependent on the number of Special Class registrations. We believe that in-person learning is the best format to support students with special education needs, particularly those in congregated classes and alternative education programs. For students enrolled in Specialized Class Placements (e.g. DD, MID, LD, Gifted), we strongly encourage in-person instruction as these programs are much better served in person.
There will be special education supports for students in the remote program, however, we may not be able to offer specialized classes in the Erin PS Remote Program in the 2022-23 school year. We will confirm if Specialized Class Placements will be offered for 2022-2023 when registration closes. If you sign-up for a Specialized Class Placement at the Erin PS Remote Program and we are unable to offer that program, we will contact you to discuss your options.
