14 Upper Grand DSB schools achieve Healthy Schools Certification
May 25, 2018
GUELPH, Ontario – The Upper Grand District School Board is excited to announce that 14 UGDSB schools have been recognized provincially for promoting the health of their school community.
Ophea (Ontario Physical and Health Education Association) has released its list of schools that received Healthy Schools Certification in the 2017-18 school year.
This year, 255 schools in Ontario completed the process and 238 of them received Healthy Schools Certification.
In the Upper Grand, seven schools achieved gold level certification, five achieved silver and two achieved bronze.
Ophea’s HS Certification recognizes and celebrates school communities for promoting and enhancing the health and well-being of students, school staff, and the broader community.
Ophea’s goal is to help schools increase their capacity to address a priority health topic, such as physical activity, healthy eating or mental health, and to celebrate schools and their achievements.
Registered schools earn points through Ophea’s 6-Step Healthy Schools Process, which is aligned with the Ministry of Education’s Foundations for a Healthy School resource.
Over the course of the school year, schools establish a school team to lead the charge, assess their school community needs, identify their priority health topic, develop an action plan, take action and monitor their progress, and finally celebrate and reflect on their efforts. The level of certification a school achieves is determined through Ophea’s points system.
Congratulations to all on a fantastic achievement!
