Elementary teachers to withdraw from extracurricular activities

GUELPH, Ontario — The union representing elementary teachers in Ontario is escalating job action starting next week.
As of Wed. Oct. 28, elementary teachers in Ontario, including the Upper Grand District School Board, will withdraw from all voluntary extracurricular activities.
Voluntary extracurricular activities include things such as coaching sports teams, supervising clubs and supervising activities like choir and band.
Teachers may still participate in breakfast programs and will continue their supervisory duties. Remembrance Day ceremonies will take place as normal on Nov. 11.
The latest sanction is an update to ETFO’s phase 3 work-to-rule in all public schools across Ontario. ETFO has said that all items from previous work-to-rule phases still apply, including that teachers will not conduct parent-teacher interviews or participate in field trips.
