Final boundary set for new elementary school in East Guelph

MEDIA RELEASE
June 24, 2015

GUELPH, Ontario – The attendance area for a new school to be built on Couling Crescent in East Guelph was finalized at the regular meeting of the Upper Grand District School Board on June 23, 2015. Trustees voted to approve the staff recommendations in the final report of the New East Guelph (Couling Crescent) School Boundary Review.

The new 495 pupil place JK to Grade 8 French Immersion (FI) Centre is currently in the planning stages, with occupancy expected in September 2016 or September 2017. Construction was approved by the board in November 2014 in response to projected enrolment pressures at Edward Johnson PS and École King George PS.

Students who are currently in JK to Grade 2 FI at École King George PS, and who live in the new Couling Crescent attendance area, will change schools when the school opens in September 2016 (JK-4) or September 2017 (JK-5). The new boundary, shown in detail on maps in Report #3, generally follows Victoria Road, Eramosa Road, Guelph Lake, Jones Baseline and Stone Road.

Included within the new boundary is an already established interim boundary for Edward Johnson PS students entering JK-3 this September, who will be holding at the former Tytler Public School.

Students who are entering Grade 4 and above in September 2015, and who reside in the interim and final Couling Crescent attendance areas, are grandparented at Edward Johnson PS and École King George PS for the remainder of their elementary school years.

Staff will bring a report to the board in the fall of 2015 to confirm the opening date and starting grades of the Couling Crescent school.

Trustees are also expecting a report, to be delivered prior to February 2019, with recommendations about the start of Grades 7 and 8 at the Couling Crescent school, supported by updated enrolment projections and information on intermediate class sizes.
