GCVI hosts musician Rich Brown for performance, workshop with students

March 9, 2016

GUELPH, Ontario – This week, musician Rich Brown will be at Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute for a performance and workshop with students.

Since 1992, Brown has been an active member of Toronto’s diverse music scene. From the age of 17 he was influenced by musicians such as Jaco Pastorius, Victor Bailey, Jimmy Haslip, and Alain Caron.

Brown is nominated for a 2016 Juno Award in the Jazz Album of the Year: Solo category. The bassist is currently on tour with the band Samdhi, led by New York’s Rudresh Mahanthappa.

On Friday evening he will be performing with Jason Raso as part of Guelph’s Silence Shift series, which features innovative and diverse performances. But first, he will perform for students at GCVI.

Brown is one of several guest artists that GCVI is hosting this year. On Friday March 11, he will perform some of his solo work and then participate in a Q&A with students. The purpose of the guest artist series is to bring artists to the school so they can talk to students about what life is like as a professional musician, giving youth a real world perspective of life in the arts.
