OSSTF support staff begin central job action

GUELPH, Ontario – On Monday Oct. 5, Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) Support Staff members began central job action.
In the Upper Grand District School Board, this affects the following staff in elementary and secondary schools, as well as administration offices: Office Staff, Educational Assistants, Early Childhood Educators, Child and Youth Counsellors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Speech and Language staff, Information Technology support staff.
Parents and students may notice some changes under the job action, which – among other instructions – states that Support Staff will not:
- Handle money unless in job description
- Call students to the office
- Assist with student registration, including the printing of student schedules
- Participate in parent interviews/meetings outside of the regularly scheduled school day
- Answer phones before or after the regular working day or during breaks
- Assist with maintenance of school/work-related websites, newsletters, bulletin boards
OSSTF Education Workers advised the Council of Trustees Associations (CTA) of the job action on Sept. 30, 2015.
