Priory Park Public School gets playground with community support

New playground at Priory Park Public School

Students at Priory Park PS proudly show off their new playground structure.

Priory Park Public School received a new playground structure this year thanks to community donations from their neighbour, Sifton Properties, the Royal Canadian Legion John McCrae Branch #234 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Upper Grand Learning Foundation’s Free to Achieve program.

‘What a wonderful gift this brand new playground is,” said the school’s Principal Tracy Oldfield-Baker.

“Not only are students enjoying it, but the whole neighbourhood will have many years of fun and physical activity from this addition to our yard.”

The Ladies Auxiliary provided $1,500 of the total cost, supplementing years of fundraising by the School Council, and the Learning Foundation added $4,000. Sifton Properties latest donation of $21,000 put the project over the top.

As a long-standing community partner, Sifton Properties supports the school through an annual $500 donation to purchase birthday books for each student’s special day. They also donated an outdoor class space with a berm and plants two years ago.

At the Open House on Thursday September 25 the school will officially thank Sifton Properties, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Upper Grand Learning Foundation. The short ceremony is set for 5:15 p.m.

“We’re a very fortunate school community. The original playground dated from the school’s construction in 1976, so this update was long overdue”, said Oldfield-Baker.
