Aberfoyle PS students celebrate a Week of Giving

December 11, 2019

ABERFOYLE, Ontario – Aberfoyle Public School is hosting its annual Week of Giving.

The Week of Giving is something that the school has been participating in for several years and is organized by the school’s Me2We Club as a way to give back to others during the holiday season.  The Me2We Club consists of students in grades 7 and 8.

The Me2We Club is involved in all aspects of planning and executing the Week of Giving. Students wrote announcements and sent out reminders; they even attached the reminders to candy canes as a gift to students to kick off the week. They set up the giving tree and wrapped the boxes that will hold the donations and they were responsible for selecting the charities that will receive the donations.

This year the group decided to collect donations for the Forgotten People Connection and Lakeside HOPE House.

The school has been working with HOPE House for a few years and some students were fortunate enough to get a tour of the facility and volunteer there earlier this fall.

The Forgotten People Connection is a charitable organization run by a family from the Aberfoyle PS community. The organization does work in Africa to build schools and help educate children.

On Monday, the school collected non-perishable food items for Lakeside HOPE House.

On Tuesday, the school will participate in a toonie drive. The money collected will be donated to the Forgotten People Connection to help build and maintain schools in Africa.

On Wednesday, the school will be collecting small gifts that are appropriate for teenagers. These gifts will be donated to HOPE House, whose staff and volunteers will distribute them to those in need.

Thursday is winter accessory day. Students will collect winter hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and warm socks.

The school will conclude the week of giving on Friday with personal hygiene day. Students will collect baby wipes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste and more for HOPE House.

Great work Aberfoyle PS!
