Arbour Vista PS embraces the spirit of giving

December 15, 2017

GUELPH, Ontario – Students and staff at Arbour Vista Public School are getting into the spirit of the season by decorating the school’s Giving Tree.

The tree is being decorated with new donated mittens, hats, scarves and gloves. The donated items will be given to Upper Grand DSB students in need at various schools.

The whole school is getting involved in the spirit of giving this holiday season with many other activities. Kindergarten students are also participating in a toy and gift card drive this year for children and families in need in Guelph and Wellington County.

Students raised over $700 in gift card and toy donations to help support the Adopt-a-Family program. During the collection campaign, kindergarten students were taught the importance of helping others.

Grade 7 students participated in the Adopt-a-Family program. Adopt-a-Family is a program through the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington that matches donors with families in need and allows donors to provide families with support during the holiday season.

This year, grade 7 teachers at the school asked that in lieu of any teacher gifts families may wish to buy, that families make donations to the grade 7 Adopt-a-Family project. Students in grade 7 were able to raise $900.00 and get every item on their family’s wish list.

Students, staff and some parents went shopping with some of the donated funds to purchase the items for the family. Students and staff feel confident that they were able to make a difference in the life of their family this year.
