Beards4Breakfasts: UGDSB principals growing beards to support school nutrition programs

For Immediate Release
November 20, 2017

GUELPH, Ontario – School principals in the Upper Grand District School Board are growing their beards for a good cause.

Five elementary principals are hoping to raise thousands of dollars for the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington’s Food & Friends program.

Food & Friends is a fantastic program that runs throughout the UGDSB. It provides funding and support for school breakfast, snack and lunch programs, which ensure all students are nourished and ready to take on the day.

Last year, Food & Friends funded 103 student nutrition programs, reaching more than 16,600 students.

UGDSB principals David Marquis (École Guelph Lake), Mike Anderson (Brant Avenue PS), Ken Keesmaat (Taylor Evans PS), Chris Popofski (Gateway Drive PS), and Randal Wagner (Paisley Road PS) started Beards4Breakfasts in the fall, with the hopes of raising $5,000 for Food & Friends.

The principals have promised they will shave once they hit their fundraising goal.
