GUELPH, Ontario — The Upper Grand District School Board and the members of the OSSTF District 18 Teacher Bargaining Unit and the District 18 Occasional Teacher Bargaining Unit have ratified tentative collective agreements reached on January 27 and December 12 respectively.

The contracts run for the four year period from September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2012 and are compliant with the Provincial Discussion Table (PDT) Agreements as required by the Ministry of Education. These agreements provide for salary increases and other enhancements that are fully funded by the province.

The Teachers Bargaining Unit settlement includes salary increases of 3% in each of the four years of the contract, with additional funding enhancements in the areas of professional development, benefits, and staffing for regular teachers.

The Occasional Teacher Bargaining Unit rates of pay are based on the regular teacher salary grid. Their contract also includes new language stating that the board will use an electronic system to call short-term occasional teachers for work based on a qualifications-based random order system.
