West Guelph FI Boundary Review – Final Decision

Trustees approved several recommendations as part of the West Guelph French Immersion (FI) Boundary Review.

In May 2017, staff confirmed that a new FI program will be accommodated at Gateway Drive Public School (JK-3) and Willow Road Public School (grades 4-8).

On May 23, trustees approved the initiation of the West Guelph FI Boundary Review to confirm the new JK-8 FI boundary for Gateway Drive PS and Willow Road PS. The boundary review also examined the impact of the new boundary on Paisley Road Public School and John McCrae Public School, which currently accommodate FI students from West Guelph.

At the September Board Meeting, trustees approved several recommendations, which confirmed the new FI enrolment caps and boundaries for Gateway Drive PS and Willow Road PS, as well as altered FI enrolment caps and boundaries for Paisley Road PS and John McCrae PS.

The new FI boundary includes the area west of the Hanlon Expressway, north of the Speed River and east of the Guelph-Woolwich Townline.

Erin Sports Field Report

Trustees approved the initiation of a construction project that will redevelop the sports field at Erin Public School.

For several years, the Erin District High School community has advocated for the development of a full-size football/rugby pitch at the Erin DHS/Centre 2000 property. While there are significant limitations to achieving this on the high school property, an opportunity exists to re-envision the outdoor space at Erin PS to meet the needs of both schools.

The staff report, “Erin Sports Fields Recommendation Report” outlines the feasibility and risks of redeveloping the Erin DHS property, alternatives available – including the recommended alternative of redeveloping Erin PS – and details of community engagement between board staff and the Erin PS and Erin DHS communities. The report also outlines proposed site amenities, including a proposed greening concept, and project details and timeline.

The project will be part of the board’s 2017-18 renewal plan.

The next regular monthly meeting will be held by on Tues. October 24, 2017, at the Guelph Board Office, 500 Victoria Road North. Everyone is welcome to attend. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
