Major gains made by students in provincial EQAO grade 9 math assessments

GUELPH, Ontario (September 17) — Students in grade 9 mathematics programs at Upper Grand secondary schools continue to achieve above provincial averages in the annual EQAO assessments showing a five percentage point gain for students studying at the applied level, and six percentage points for those in academic programs.

Guelph elementary schools take gold and bronze in the elementary Skills Canada Competition

GUELPH, Ontario (May 5, 2009) — Ken Danby Public School, Guelph, and Primrose Elementary School in Shelburne won gold and bronze medals in the Construction Technology and Video Production Technology respectively at the Elementary Skills Canada competition at Kitchener’s RIM Park on Monday May 4.

Guelph girl publishes new Robert Munsch book for charity

GUELPH, Ontario (June 12, 2009) — A new book written by acclaimed children’s author Robert Munsch and published by an eight-year-old girl from Guelph, Ont., goes on sale today in support of Children of Bukati, a charity that supports more than 650 HIV/AIDS orphans at Bukati Primary School in Butula, Kenya, by providing pencils, school uniforms and a lunch program.

Kindergarten students to take virtual field trip to Santa’s workshop

GUELPH, Ontario (December 10, 2008) — Kindergarten students at three Upper Grand schools will take a virtual field trip to the North Pole to visit Santa in his workshop on Friday December 12.

Centre Wellington boundary and program changes approved

GUELPH, Ontario (February 26, 2009) — After deferring a decision on boundary and program changes for seven Centre Wellington elementary schools from the December board meeting to the February meeting, trustees approved changes to move the French Immersion (FI) program into two schools (currently it’s in three schools), create a new grade 7-8 program and to adjust various school boundaries to have children living in Fergus attending Fergus schools, beginning in September 2009.

Experts: Steady increase in childhood, adolescent obesity an epidemic

French immersion program for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 students to start in Orangeville in September 2009

GUELPH, Ontario (February 25, 2009) — A Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 French Immersion (FI) program will be implemented in Orangeville for Dufferin County students beginning in September 2009. Grades 7 and 8 will be added in the following two school years.
