CDDHS promotes bullying awareness through week of activities
November 20, 2019
SHELBURNE, Ontario – Students and staff at Centre Dufferin District High School are spending the week promoting Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week at the school.
Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week is an opportunity for us all to reinforce clear and positive messages that bullying is not acceptable in our schools and community.
Many groups at CDDHS are demonstrating leadership through a number of activities promoting equity and challenging stereotypes.
Earlier this month, Student Council promoted World Kindness Day by providing daily announcements on the importance of kindness and compassion for others.
To kick off Bullying Prevention Week, CDDHS raised the anti-bullying flag as a reminder of their commitment to providing a safe and inclusive space for all.
On Tuesday, the CDDHS Social Equity Black Chapter attended the Black Brilliance Conference in Toronto, which was hosted by the Toronto District School Board.
On Wednesday, the school’s One Voice One Team participated in a workshop held by Orlando Bowen and Jermaine Frazer, focusing on leadership and service to others.
Wednesday also marked the Transgender Day of Remembrance. This annual observance honours the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of violence. To mark the day at the school, the Social Equity Gender Sexuality Alliance created posters and displays to spread awareness of this event throughout the school. The transgender flag was also raised at the school.
On Friday, student stakeholders involved in a variety of leadership groups will be completing an Equity Walk. These students will be participating in a walk around the school, providing a series of evaluations on the ways in which evidence of equity can be found in classrooms, learning content, and building facilities. Through this data, students and staff will create a plan of action to make changes within the school so that all students see themselves reflected in their learning environment.
