Celebrate the season – it’s Winter Walk Day on February 4
MEDIA RELEASE
February 3, 2015
GUELPH, Ontario – Wednesday 4, 2015 February is Winter Walk Day – a day to embrace winter, bundle up, get outside and celebrate.
“There’s no need to hibernate, a winter walk can be fun and enjoyable,” says Jacky Kennedy, Director Canada Walks, Green Communities Canada.
The weather forecast in the Upper Grand District School Board (at the time this story was published) is for highs between -3C and -5C on Winter Walk Day, with periods of snow.
Follow these simple tips to enjoy a winter walk:
- Keep hands and head covered to prevent heat loss
- On really cold days wear a scarf over your face and mouth
- Wear warm, waterproof boots
- Wear a warm coat that deflects the wind
- Choose woolen clothing – it helps to retain the heat
- Wear clothing or carry knapsacks with reflective material – it’s important to be seen
- If possible, change wet clothes at school – tuck an extra pair of socks and mitts into knapsacks
Don’t let winter keep you in – walk to school or at school for daily physical activity, a healthier environment, safer streets, to meet people and have fun!
