Celebrating Diwali on November 4

November 4, 2021

Diwali or Deepavali is the Hindu-originated festival of lights. Diwali is on November 4 and is celebrated over five days during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika.

Diwali is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism. Diwali is one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and some Buddhists, along with many other groups across the globe.

Diwali symbolizes the human urge to move toward the light and is celebrated with gifts exchanges, fireworks, and festival meals. Many people decorate their homes, shops and public places with lights and lamps so Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, can find her way to them. During this time the legends of Rama and Sita are also celebrated.

Happy Diwali to everyone in the UGDSB community celebrating the Festival of Lights!
