Centennial CVI swimmers win gold and set records at OFSAA

GUELPH, Ontario – Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute’s student swimmers performed well during the 2020 OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) swim championship in Toronto earlier this week.

The school’s Open Boys Division won gold during the competition with 404 points, almost doubling the second-place points. The team is made up of William, Russell, Marcus, Owen, Thomas, Maxwell and Oliver.

Swimmers from CCVI also set three OFSAA records during the competition. William set a record in the 200 Free, Russell set a record for the 200 Individual Medley and as a team William, Russell, Marcus and Owen set a record for the 200 Individual Medley Relay. This team broke that swim record twice this year, once during the preliminary heats and once during finals.

Additional CCVI medalists include:

OFSSA Finalists included the Open Girls Medley Relay (Rachel, Hanna, Sydney and Selinah) who placed 5th. Ana placed 16th in the 200 Free. The Open Boys 400 free relay team (Thomas, Oliver, Maxwell and Owen) placed 6th.

CCVI sent 16 swimmers to the OFSAA competition and placed 8th overall out of 293 teams.

Swimmers William, Russell, Marcus and Sydney performed so well during the competition, that they have qualified for the Olympic Trials.

Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute also had swimmers at the OFSAA competition, they placed 65th overall.
