CHSS talent showcased in the hustle and bustle before the holidays
December 21, 2017
GUELPH, Ontario – It’s been a festive week at College Heights Secondary School.
The school community at CHSS has been industrious in their learning leading into this holiday season.
Once again, College Heights Hospitality teachers and students hosted their annual holiday luncheon. The meal consisted of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, assorted root vegetables, gravy, homemade cranberry sauce, Christmas pudding, and a variety of wonderful sweets from the school’s Bake Shop.
The Hospitality team got quite the workout, peeling 250 pounds of potatoes, 150 pounds of carrots and completing all of the other kitchen preparations required to feed the entire school and staff. It was a wonderful community feast enjoyed by all.
Baking students were also extremely busy this December, making more than 120 dozen mini tarts, 115 dozen regular tarts, 500 dozen cookies, 30 dozen truffles, 85 large gingerbread ornaments, 75 gingerbread houses and 360 regular scooped cookies.
This week, Green Industries hosted its annual Holiday Boutique. This popular three-day event featured a superb selection of holiday gifts from the school’s SHSM Horticulture & Landscaping program, Construction classes, and Art classes. Items included fresh centrepieces, host/hostess gifts, pickled spiced beets, seasonal patio arrangements, designer wreaths, cutting boards, clocks, candleholders, and other fine woodworking pieces.
Many students also competed in a Design Competition featuring festive floral arrangements and winter photography categories.
Happy Holidays from the CHSS Huskies! Enjoy the break!
