CWDHS student wins prestigious scholarship

June 4, 2021

GUELPH, Ontario – A student at Centre Wellington District High School has recently been awarded the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship.

The Schulich Leader Scholarship is awarded to 100 students across Canada each year by partner universities. Each student is awarded funds to pursue an undergraduate degree in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

This scholarship gives Canadian students $80,000-$100,000 to use toward their post-secondary studies.

Louise is a graduating student from CWDHS and will be using the scholarship at Queens University.

One of Louise’s teachers, Tim King, said, “I’ve always been impressed with Louise’s breadth and development of technological skill, but the biggest thrill for me this year was seeing Louise assume a leadership role on her CyberTitan team and then again in co-op and now in software engineering.  This aptly named scholarship is not only going to a very technically gifted student, but also a budding leader who exhibits the very best leadership habits.”

When reflecting on this exciting scholarship opportunity, Louise said, “I am so incredibly honoured and grateful to have received this scholarship. When I applied, I never expected I would be chosen as a recipient. This is genuinely life changing. I would have never gotten to this point if it weren’t for my supportive teachers, especially Mr. King and Mr. Girvin who have always inspired me to do my best, and have never once doubted me.”

Louise continued to say, “I feel like my years of hard work within the school have finally paid off, and I am ready to start this wonderful new chapter of my life. I’m so excited to start at Queen’s university, and this scholarship enables me to make the absolute best out of my time there.”

Congratulations Louise on this incredible scholarship opportunity.
