CWDHS’s FalconTech places 5th in national cybersecurity competition

June 12, 2020

FERGUS, Ontario – A cybersecurity team from Centre Wellington District High School has done it again, punching above their weight and placing well in a national cybersecurity competition.

CWDHS’s FalconTech King’s Guard placed 5th in the CyberTitan III National Finals. CWDHS was the only composite, community school in the final 10, with the rest of the teams coming from AP academic specialist schools.

The CW team advanced to the finals after months of preparation and competing against 1,000 students and more than 200 teams across the county.

FalconTech King’s Guard is coached by CWDHS teacher Timothy King and composed of Rachel Routly, Edward Noel, Quentin Wolkensperg, Kyle Welsh, Arvid Kuitert and Nick Robichaud.

King extended a special thanks to the UGDSB tech staff who “did backflips” to help them overcome the digital divide, while competing remotely from home.

He also thanked the team’s parents for their support. “The team’s parents have been simply outstanding, supporting us at every step along a road that kept falling out from beneath us. It’s a real testament to the CW community spirit,” said King.

CWDHS will no doubt be back at the finals next year and we’ll be cheering them on!
