Dress Purple Day on October 27 brings awareness to vulnerable children and families
October 25, 2021
GUELPH, Ontario — There are many children and families whose experiences are influenced by negative factors. Family violence, racial and ethnic prejudice as well as poverty are all factors that can leave individuals from fulfilling a healthy and productive life.
Dress Purple Day was created by the Children’s Aid Societies across Ontario to help bring awareness to vulnerable children and their families who may be going through such negative experiences.
Dress Purple Day is celebrated every year in October. The campaign aims to get the public’s support in realizing that the responsibility to help these vulnerable communities is on all of us.
This year, the campaign is more important than ever, since the COVID-19 pandemic has created additional stressors for our community, and in some cases has created a high-risk environment for children and youth.
This year, Dress Purple Day will take place on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. We encourage our UGDSB community to wear purple to show children, youth and their families that we are here to support them. You can also take part by participating in our Dress Purple Day social media campaign by taking a selfie, or a video, wearing purple and sharing on social media. You can like and share Dress Purple Day messages and videos or you can even create a Dress Purple Day display in your schools.
