June 12, 2018
GUELPH, Ontario – On June 12, Edward Johnson Public School celebrated their Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser in a unique and fun way.
Prior to their Jump Rope for Heart event, the school set the fundraising goal of $8,000. If students raised $8,000, Victoria Motto the school’s Resource teacher agreed to let students tape her to the gym wall and pie her in the face.
Students at the school rose to the challenge and raised $12,981.04, making them the second highest fundraisers for Jump Rope for Heart in Wellington-Dufferin.
Each class assembled in the gym and one-by-one taped Ms. Motto to the wall. Once Motto was secured to the wall, the top three fundraisers at the school were given the opportunity to pie her in the face.
Grade 1 student Lola was the top fundraiser and first student to pie Motto with a delicious chocolate cream pie. Lola won this honour by raising $1,150.
Grade 6 students Henry and Caleigh placed 2nd and 3rd. Henry took to the stage with the second pie and really made sure that Motto had pie on her face. Unfortunately, Caleigh was unable to attend the event, but junior kindergarten student Tegan stepped up to the plate and delivered the last pie to Motto.
Students and staff cheered Ms. Motto on as she took each piece of tape and each pie to the face.
