Envision – Beyond Borders students host charity events

May 30, 2022

GUELPH, ON – Students enrolled in the UGDSB’s Beyond Borders experiential learning program are envisioning a better future for our local and global communities, through several charity events.

This year, Beyond Borders is running three in-person charity events titled, “Envision” from June 10 to June 12. On Friday and Sunday, they will be holding semi-formal events at Strom’s Farm & Bakery, featuring multiple musical acts – both students in the Beyond Borders’ program and local artists will be performing. On Saturday, a golf tournament will take place at Hidden Lakes Golf Course.

“The [Beyond Border] program is an opportunity for community-minded youth to do things for community-minded people. We’re using business as a force for good for the world,” said Olivia, chief editor of this year’s Beyond Border cohort.

All profits from the events will go toward the Guelph General Hospital, the David Suzuki Foundation, and Doctors Without Borders. In addition to their chosen charities, 10% of Envision’s profits will be returned to the Upper Grand Learning Foundation to help support next year’s Beyond Borders group.

“The [Beyond Borders] program is built around leadership development,” said Michael Parsons, Beyond Borders teacher. The students in the program have separated themselves into different departments to take on the various tasks of planning this fundraiser over a six-week period.

This year is the tenth year running the Beyond Borders charity event, with previous years raising more than $150,000.
