GCVI donates unused prom money to Canadian charities

June 12, 2020

GUELPH, Ontario – Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute is making the best of an usual end to the school year in a way that benefits several Canadian charities.

The GCVI Grad Committee is the club that is responsible for many grad specific events, including prom. This group works year-round to fundraise for these grad-specific events.

Although disappointed to hear prom would be cancelled because of COVID-19 restrictions, the committee decided to use the money they had already fundraised to positively impact Canadian charities during these challenging times.

On behalf of the 2020 graduating class at GCVI, the committee was able to donate $250 each to CanadaHelpsFood Banks Canada and the Guelph Black Heritage Society.

The committee was also able to set aside a $250 scholarship fund, which will be awarded to a student during the fall commencement.

The school is very proud of students for choosing to do something good out of a disappointing situation.

Great job GCVI!
