GCVI Music joins several other music programs to create ambitious virtual performance

February 26, 2021

GUELPH, Ontario – The Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute’s Music Program has joined forces with four other high school music programs and McMaster University to create an impressive virtual performance.

In the fall, McMaster University’s Music Program decided to take on an incredibly ambitious project. McMaster chose five high school music programs from across the province to join forces with the McMaster University Concert Band to create a huge multi-school virtual performance piece.

Guelph CVI was selected to join this collaborative project along with T.A. Blakelock High School in Oakville, Sherwood Secondary School in Hamilton, Westmount Secondary School in Hamilton and Glendale Secondary School in Hamilton.

According to GCVI music teacher Dan Austin, “The piece selected was easily the most challenging piece of music we have ever tried with our high school students.” The piece he is referring to is I.S.S. Flyover by Canadian Composer Pete Meechan.

This collaborative project will be premiering virtually on March 1 at 7:30pm. The link to this performance will be released March 1 and will be available on the Virtual Winds Project website.
