GCVI Music to hold performance of The Beatles’ Abbey Road

January 20, 2023

GUELPH, ON – Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institutes’s (GCVI) music department is inviting the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph community out for a musical performance of the ground-breaking album from The Beatles, Abbey Road.

The performance will take place Sunday, January 29 at 7 pm, and will feature special guest performer Mayor Cam Guthrie on the drums. The musical evening will be a ‘pay-what-you-can’ donation with all proceeds going to The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada – located in Puslinch.

The performance is a continuation of the existing relationship between GCVI’s music department and The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada.

“Last year, a volunteer at the sanctuary donated his Fender Telecaster and Gibson Les Paul to our music program – a very generous gift – this show will see the handover of these two gorgeous instruments and their use for the first time in their new home with us,” said GCVI’s music director, Lane Osborne.

The performance is a culminating assignment for Osborne’s vocal and guitar classes, but the project has extended to include a collaboration with GCVI’s string ensemble as well. The students selected Abbey Road after a tournament-like selection process between 20 different albums.
