GCVI partners with Special Olympics and Guelph Storm

GUELPH, ON – The Upper Grand District School Board partners with the Special Olympics to run events at our schools year-round. Most recently, representatives from the Special Olympics reached out to UG staff to say that they had partnered with the Guelph Storm and were hoping to visit a school for a fun hockey game.

Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute jumped at the opportunity and the Special Education and Physical Education departments worked together to make it happen.

On Monday, November 13, 2023, Special Olympics Representatives and members of the Guelph Storm visited the LRC10 (Learning Resource Class) at GCVI to meet with students and play some floor hockey in the gym.

Members of the Storm and students from GCVI played together as unified teams, a team that integrates athletes with and without intellectual disabilities, while also promoting social engagement.

Students and members of the Storm had a blast playing together.
