April 19, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – A student from the Upper Grand has been granted a unique opportunity to study particle physics overseas at the world’s biggest physics experimental research institute.

Guelph CVI student Aiden is one of 30 students from around the world accepted to attend the S’Cool LAB Summer CAMP for two weeks this summer.

The group of high school students will have an opportunity to explore the world of particle physics at the S’Cool LAB, a hands-on learning laboratory at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. CERN is the European Organization for Nuclear Research, where physicists and engineers probe the fundamental structure of the universe. CERN is dedicated to offering educational programs to teachers and students to help groups learn more about particle physics.

The two-week S’Cool LAB program includes lectures and tutorials, experiment sessions, the opportunity to conduct their own research projects, and visits to CERN’s research installations.

The requirements for students to be selected to attend the camp included having a passion for and strong ability in physics and math, be currently enrolled in their final two years of high school and be extremely motivated. The summer camp is free of charge for students, with all expenses covered by CERN.

Congratulations Aiden!
