GCVI student wins gold at regional science fair

GUELPH, ON – Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute grade 10 student Roocha S recently participated at The Waterloo-Wellington Science and Engineering Fair.  

This is an annual event that brings together hundreds of students in grades 7 to 12 from Waterloo Region and Wellington County. Winners of the fair go on to compete at the Canada-Wide Science Fair.  

Roocha’s project focused on protecting plants from temperature fluctuations and increasing flowering by using electrolyzed seaweed extract. To learn more about Roocha’s project, click here 

Roocha won the gold medal for this project at the regional science fair. She then competed in the national fair in Edmonton, Alberta from May 13 to 21 where she placed again and came home with the bronze medal.
