GCVI Symphonic Band is heading to McMaster University

March 25, 2019

GUELPH, Ontario – The Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute Sr. Symphonic Band has been invited to perform at McMaster University as special guests of the McMaster University Concert Band.

The McMaster University Concert Band will host their spring concert on April 7 at the university.

According to Joseph Resendes, Director of the McMaster University Concert Band, the university has a long-standing tradition of working with the surrounding community. This tradition was established long before Resendes started and he is happy to continue the tradition.

Resendes and GCVI Music teacher Dan Austin met several years ago at the Golden Horseshoe Music Festival and this is the first time that Resendes had the opportunity to work with the GCVI Symphonic Band.

According to Resendes, “GCVI was an obvious choice [as guest performers at the spring concert], and we are thrilled to have them.”

The spring concert event Band Together will feature McMaster University Concert Band with guest soloist Dr. Michael Schutz, marimba and the GCVI Sr. Symphonic Band.

The event is taking place on April 7 at 3:00 p.m. in the L.R. Wilson Concert Hall at McMaster University in Hamilton.

Best wishes to all the GCVI music students participating in this event.
