GUELPH, Ontario – Grade 8 students at William C. Winegard Public School have recently dabbled in entrepreneurship.

Students were hard at work researching a product of service and then investigated what it would take to start a small business.

Students created their own business plans including marketing, start-up costs, cost per unit, sales price, profits and future investments. Students were also tasked with creating the product, creating company names, logos and marketing materials.

Through student-designed store front displays, students in Ms. Barbour’s class set up “The Barbour Mall,” on May 18 to showcase their products. The goal of this mall was not just to showcase their product but also to sell it to potential buyers. Buyers included parents/guardians, schools staff and other students at the school.

Storefront displays included print marketing, commercials and of course students selling their product with a unique sales pitch.

The products for sale included stress balls, baked goods, fries and other potato products, woodworking creations, bath balms and more.
