November 28, 2018
GUELPH, Ontario – For three days in November, College Heights Secondary School opened its doors to more than 1,000 grade 8 students and teachers.
On November 27 to 29, the school gave grade 8 students the opportunity to see what CHSS has to offer students in their secondary studies.
Staff and students at College Heights SS designed the tour in a way that gave grade 8 students true hands-on experience in the programming and opportunities at CHSS.
Elementary students from 23 Upper Grand DSB schools that visited CHSS over the three-day period had the chance to participate in the following workshops:
- Science
- English
- Guitar
- Family Studies
- Cosmetology
- Health Care
- Physical Education
- Hospitality – Baking and Foods
- Green Industries – Horticulture
- Manufacturing
- Construction – Wood working
- Auto – maintenance and auto body
- Computer Technology
Grade 8 students made monogrammed key chains, created their own pizza, baked cupcakes, got hair extensions, potted a plant to take home and much more.
The valuable experiences that grade 8 students received at the school opened their eyes to the possibilities and pathways that are available to them as potential future students at College Heights SS.
