Harris Mill PS rises to the top for Jump Rope for Heart

April 11, 2023

ROCKWOOD, ON — Congratulations to students and staff at Harris Mill Public School, who recently found out that they are the number one school in all of Canada for Jump Rope for Heart donations – currently sitting at $11,785.000 raised.

Students and staff at Harris Mill PS were elated when they found out they were the top fundraising school in all of Canada.

“We could not believe we were the top school in the entire country, because we are just a small school in Rockwood,” said Kailey Sargeant, a teacher at Harris Mill and one of the members of the Jump Rope for Heart Committee.

Harris Mill is a small elementary school of 284 students and they started off with a smaller goal of raising $1000.

“We reached the $1000 goal within 24 hours, which was very exciting and shocking, to say the least. We quickly had to make more goals to keep the momentum going,” said Sargeant.

Every day morning announcements at Harris Mill included how much students and staff had raised, and what incentives were given after reaching a certain dollar amount. “We promised the students that if we reached our $1000 goal, then five teachers and the custodian would get a pie in the face in front of the whole school,” said Sargeant.

The Upper Grand is so proud that students at Harris Mill may be small in population but mighty in will and have demonstrated how positive and generous our school communities can be.
