J.D. Hogarth PS students give back to the community

October 23, 2019

FERGUS, Ontario – Students in Fergus had the chance to give back to their community, while engaging in a math lesson at the same time.

On October 21, a class of grade 8 students at J.D. Hogarth Public School worked with local partners to donate to the Centre Wellington Food Bank.

The Fergus branch of Meridian Credit Union generously donated $1,000 for the students to purchase food for the food bank.

In groups of two or three students, the class had the task of spending as close to $100 per group as they could. Students were responsible for figuring out which items were taxed, calculating the taxes, and adding their subtotals before cashing out.

With the help of local OPP and Fire services, all of the food was delivered to the Centre Wellington Food Bank.
