June 13, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – John F. Ross CVI teacher and rugby coach Mark Yanchus was named the recipient of the OFSAA Leadership in School Sport Award at the OFSAA banquet earlier this month.

According to OFSAA, “The OFSAA Leadership in School Sport Award is presented annually at each OFSAA Championship to a teacher-coach who has made a significant contribution to the educational athletic program. The recipient of this award exemplifies the values of fair play and good sportsmanship, while promoting enjoyment, personal growth and educational achievement through school sport. The person receiving the award has had a longstanding career as a teacher-coach, has demonstrated commitment to the overall school sport program, and they are respected by their students, colleagues and fellow coaches.”

Jason Cormier, teacher-coach at St. Francis Xavier SS in Mississauga, nominated Yanchus for this award; Cormier was the convenor for the AAA Girls’ Rugby Championships this year.

During the OFSAA banquet, Guelph women’s rugby head coach Colette McAuley presented Yanchus with the award.

Congratulations Mark!
